3:05-3:35 Monday, September 30th facing South West

The wind is blowing from the North East heading to the South west. The air seemed to smell like freshly cut grass and some creek water. My sit spot is facing towards the creek. The creek has a fair amount of fallen leaves in it already. The leaves get caught on the rocks that are emerging from the water some. Behind me I hear the chirping of some bird that I guessed to be Ravens. There is a small waterfall to my right (west) in which is overpowering the sounds of the birds. The trees around me still have most of their green leaves, but some are starting to turn and lose them. There is some moss growing on some of the rocks on the bank below me that is facing towards North.

There is a lot less movement going on this time compared to last time I visited my sit spot. The only moving creatures I saw were the red ants. The red ants were wandering around through all the leaf litter on the ground and on the trees. I saw around three red ants and two black ants. My sit spot is full of plants such as trees, grasses, moss, and some small bushes. I am very excited to see how everything changes to get ready for winter.

The first plant I want to focus on while in my sit spot would be the Eastern Sycamore tree that is right in front of me across the creek. Right now, the tree still has a lot of green leaves and hasn’t really started to lose them. It does have some leaves that have turned brown and crinkled up some, but most of the tree is still very green.

The second thing I would like to focus on while in my sit spot would be the moss growing on the rock. I have no idea what happens to moss during the winter. I am very curious if it even goes through any change to prepare. I want to know if it will stay green or change color during the time in which I have sit spot.

The third thing I would like to see is the roots of the plants around me. I want to know if they will be covered by the leaves or if the weather would change them. I would like to know if something happened to scrape away the dirty from them some during the winter or if the leaves that cover them will protect them.
