My sit-spot is located between the pond and the creek near the soccer fields. I picked this location because it is a quick walk form my dorm and has minimal foot traffic, in addition, it is surrounded by nature on all sides, making for a beautiful view no matter which direction you face. I chose to face the pond, so while I am close to the creek, I can not really see it from where I am sitting. South east of where I sit is a large tree, and the whole time I sat at my sit-spot, this large tree gave me great shade. Just north of me is a smaller willow tree and if you continue to follow the edge of the pond to the north, there are several large bushes along the side. West of me are some sporadically placed trees that vary in size. Lastly, south west of me is the creek that is not visible due to the bushes, trees, and grasses covering the edge of the creek.

While I was at my sit-spot, I has several ants crawl on both myself and my shoes, leading me to think that I might have sat on or near an ant nest. The ants varied in size and color, most were black, but some were brown or a brownish-red. I am positive that some of these ants either bite or sting, as I had multiple times when I was sitting there that I was stung/bit by these ants. It was not pleasant. The weather was very nice and had a nice breeze. The breeze created ripples on the surface of the pond and cause the tree leaves to rustle around me. Between the tree leaves and the insects (perhaps grasshoppers or cicadids) noises, the noise from campus was drowned out.

While I was sitting there, I saw a surprising amount of the circle ripples created by fish (or perhaps a turtle) in the water. I did not think that there would be many fish in the pond, as it is not the cleanest, with large amounts of algae and various other things. At one point I am fairly certain I saw a turtle in the pond. It was hard to tell because it was on the far side of the pond and original just looked like a log floating in the water, but after staring at it for several minutes I concluded that it was most likely a turtle. Around me I noticed that the grass around me had several types. Under the tree, most of the grass growing under it were more like small leaves with rounder shapes and grooves, similar to parsley. There were also patches of onion grass and clover.

While I was at my sit-spot I felt very peaceful. Except for the ants, they were quite annoying and created a struggle for focusing on my surroundings. But in the few moments of peace while I wasn’t getting stung or bitten, I enjoyed the calming sounds of nature. Also since the weather was so nice that day, I was very happy to be outside and to get to enjoy it.

My three objects I chose to study were the small willow tree to the north of me, which is right on the pond edge. The willow tree I think may have some fungus or something, as it had some unusual growth on the trunk about halfway up. The second thing I chose to study is a large grass clump growing into the pond. The clump is directly in front of me (northeast) and it between twelve to eighteen inches tall with wide blades of grass about a centimeter wide. The last thing I chose to study is an algae clump floating on the ponds surface. It is about a foot and a half by three feet. The clump is south east of me, in the shade of the large tree. The algae is neon green and stands out among the waters surface.
