When I was deciding where my sit spot would be, I wanted to be in an area that would bring me peace while I was there. I chose this area as my sit spot because of the proximity of the creek. The peaceful sounds of the running creek with birds chirping is very calming for me. The image of running water is a bonus. The greenery was also important in choosing my sit spot. At my home there is evergreen trees surrounding the house and was my go-to safe place. Trees are always where I want to be. The spot sits about 75 meters away from a road not traveled often. To the north is the beginning of the tree covered part of the creek and the south holds the grass laden banks.

As I was sitting and taking in the sight, I noticed movement on the surface of the water and saw a bug lunging for its prey. I had never seen a bug like this before, so I took a closer look. The bug was a water strider having lunch. It amazed me how still it was before pouncing on its prey. After I had investigated the water strider, I was something out of the corner of my eye. It was a ladybug just strolling through the grass. I hadn’t seen a ladybug since I was a little girl at my brother’s baseball game. The ladybug was minding its business until I came in for a closer look. I brought a leaf for it to crawl onto like I used to do but the ladybug wasn’t buying it. I decided to leave the ladybug along and it flew away.

Along with the ladybug and water strider, I was able to see a few tadpole-like organisms swimming away from each other like they were racing each other. I also saw a black and yellow striped snake also known as the garter snake in the other side of the creek, thankfully only for a few seconds. It brought me back to the backyard of my home in Washington where my brother would pick them up and mess around trying to scare me, most of the time it worked.

Being at my sit spot was very relaxing and helped clear my mind of all the stress. I was able to walk away from the time spent feeling like a different person. I was reassuring to know that there is a space that can bring peace to me. It will be a place I go often to destress and gain a different perspective on things.

The one of objects I chose to watch is the dead log along the side of the creek. It has insect homes within the log and all around it. The second object I chose to watch was a bush with red berries directly across from my sit spot. It reminds me of the blueberry bush in the backyard of my house back home. The final object is a rock in the middle of a cluster in the creek. From my sit spot it looks to be the largest rock in the creek with a lot of activity surrounding it.
