First sit-spot blog!!! It took me quite a bit to find the right sit spot location because as much as I love the weather nowadays, I don’t like bugs very much! I eventually chose a spot near the back of tinker where I could watch some birds and not be as bothered by bugs. I wandered around a lot on campus trying to find the right spot and decided on this one because it was partly in the shade and there were lots of plants I could watch and take note of. I saw a lot of rocks and there was also a brick wall that I know a lot of ants and spiders would frequent nearby. There was also a tree directly in front of me with a plant growing between its roots. There were also a lot of bushes and shrubery to the north of where I was facing where I could see some bees and other bugs flying around in.
When I finally decided on the spot, I was facing north-east, right in front of the tree I mentioned.
As I sat there and observed, I heard a very loud cricket directly to the east. It was around 4:19 so I was a bit surprised that it was out so early, but it was loud and proud. The breeze was also really nice out and I could hear a lot of birds in the tree in front of me and the trees behind it to the north. They all sounded different and I even caught a few glances of birds flying in between trees. The other thing I hear a lot of was the cicadas! They were so loud and I couldn’t fully tell where all of the noises were coming from! On the bricks nearby I saw a couple ants crawling up and down and some even carrying little pieces of soil. Of course, the mosquitos were active as ever, I definetely got a lot more bites than I anticipated. I forgot to bring bug spray! After my observation, when I was writing in my journal, I got to see two brownish-grey birds fighting or playing in the bushes to the north. I watched them for quite a while. I was unable to get a good look because I forgot my glasses, but it was very fun to watch and I was curious if they were fighting or playing.
The three things I am choosing is a little bunch of clover with little yellow flowers sprouting up right next to a rock, the tree right in front of me (curious to see what it looks like when fall really sets in), and the plant sprouting from in between the tree’s roots! I left my sit spot at around 4:47. I really wanted to sit there for as long as I could because it was really nice spot.
I also chose a spot that was fairly near to where I lived and am not a big fan of insects! The tree that seems to be the main focus of your spot is very seems like a great spot for animals to approach. I’m wondering if you’ll see more birds or squirrels that you can identify among the tree in the future. I am sorry that you were bitten by mosquitos. Do you know what’s drawing them to your spot? I heard that mosquitos are usually most present where there are bodies of water. Overall, it seems like most of the sounds occurring that evening at your sit spot were coming from insects. I think this is pretty cool in how it helps you tune in to the smaller aspects of your sit spot!
