First sit-spot picture.

Final sit-spot picture with my sit spot indicated by bookbag.

In this session, my sit spot was almost unrecognizable. Majority of the plants and trees lost their leaves and the few remaining were either brown and ready to drop or yellowing. The ground was covered in dead, brown leaves and the bareness of the trees made everything dull. Even the grass is starting to show signs of dying! Since my last session, the leaves on the plants and trees dropped. It went from yellowing leaves, green grass, and few flowering plants to bare trees, dead leaves on the ground, and yellowing grass. Over the course of the semester, my sit-spot changed from bright green leaves and wildflowers to literally nothing.

During my last sit spot, I saw and heard birds in the distance and saw squirrels scurrying in the dead leaves. I also heard insect noises like crickets and croaking. The weather at my last session was cold (40F), had no wind, no signs of precipitation, and the sky had some cumulus clouds. During this session I noticed I didn’t hear the cricket noises anymore and I literally only heard one bird in the distance. The weather was about the same except it was very windy so I did hear rustling of all the dead leaves.

My three things have changed a lot since my last session. The first object, the green headed coneflower, lost majority of its leaves. The very few remaining look like they’re ready to drop. Before losing their leaves they were slowly being eaten by some insect and they were droopy and not crumpled like they are now. The second object, the mulberry tree (I’ve been calling the Siberian Elm but it’s actually a Mulberry), lost all of its leaves. Before the leaves were yellowing and they were slowly dropping but this session they were completely gone. The third object, Black Willow, finally lost its leaves. Before it still had a lot of its leaves on it and they didn’t show signs of yellowing. There’s still a few leaves on but they’re about to drop.

This experience for me was amazing. I definitely gained a new perspective and I’m starting to appreciate nature again. I learned new species and how to somewhat identify trees or at least the work that goes into doing so. Once I got older I stopped playing outside and I lost my love for nature but this experience has made me appreciate it again. This experience has made me comfortable with nature because of how calming my sit-spot sessions were and it’s cool to explore your surroundings. The coolest thing I experienced was finding that Crane in the creek during my first sit spot session. It was my first time seeing one that close and I’ll forever remember how scared and amazed I was.
