I chose to make my observations for my fifth sit-spot at 9:04 in the morning (day). I’ve never been out there that early, since normally I go to my sit-spots during late afternoons! I knew I’d need to choose a different time though, because of that. I came in the morning because I really didn’t want to sit out in the open in the dark.
I really love being up in the mornings, the only problem with that is I can never Get myself up because I’m always exhausted and attached to my bed. When I went out in the morning, it was so nice! The sky was super blue, and air was crisp and chilly, but I was still warm since I had my jacket and other layers. My sit- spot hasn’t changed very much since last time, mostly regarding the three things I monitor, but it did in other regards. Like, the weather had definitely changed from the dreary state it was in last time. It was clear and fairly sunny out yesterday morning, when I did this sit-spot. There were only a few patches in the sky where the clouds looked kind of fog-like, but the others were fluffly-puffy little cumulus clouds. Another thing thats changed is the oak tree I sit under is still changed its leaves from green to oranges and reds. It’s becoming more and more apparent!
It also changed in regards to the animals I saw and heard. Last time, I heard way more than I saw, and even then there wasn’t much to hear other than a bunch of planes. This time, I saw some bird that was larger than a robin but definitely smaller than a crow (maybe raven size?), with dark and evenly grey feathers and a big patch of white somewhere around his stomach area sweeping about a foot off the ground for quite a large patch of land. I don’t think I’ve seen many birds like that to be able to tell what he was, though. Afterwards, I heard a bunch of angry caws and squabbles coming from a smaller bird in a bush by the brick wall of the chapel to the south of me, only to look over and see a squirrel pop out and rush away (the squabbling immediately stopped).
I really liked coming to my sit-spot in the morning, even if I do really miss the sounds of the crickets, who weren’t there this time because it was so early. It was super refreshing, and I feel like I started my day off pretty well because of it. I know I also liked this session more because of the nice weather, but that won’t be a reliable thing in the future. I’m iffy on whether or not I’d do this again so early, not because I enjoy doing this in the afternoons more, but because my sleep is really precious to me and I rarely ever get enough of it- so every minute counts. That’s not to say that I didn’t enjoy this session enough, though, because I definitely did. 🙂
Till next time,
Emily
I also really like going to my sit spot either early in the morning or late in the day. It’s such a nice way to start or end your day.
do you see squirrels often at your sit spot?
yuh
I really liked your sit spot descriptions! I enjoyed reading your blog.
