The branch “deer” from last week was still at my sit spot along with many other branches. The branch right in front of where I sit reminds me of one the trees in my front yard back home. The birds were having a lot of fun and were all over the place. I first noticed the birds when I heard splashing in the creek. It was three birds taking baths in the creek. I will admit I was scared at first when I heard the water because I had no idea what could have made the noise. The different songs of the birds filled the air. I was not expecting to have so much going on with the birds.
The three objects I am following have finally made noticeable changes. The dead log is now halfway into the creek and missing two big chunks. I think that someone moved the log, but I can’t be sure. The bush’s fruit is shriveling up and not the bright red that attracted me to the bush in the first place. Other than the fruit the bush has stayed the same. Finally, the rock has moved positions. You can see that the sediment that was originally under the rock is mostly made up of silt and some pebbles. As I was looking at the rock, a bird decided that it was the perfect time to fly two inches away from my head. I almost fell into the creek.
After the near fall experience, I decided that it was time to turn my attention to the sky. To my utter dismay there was NO clouds. I am convinced that Mother Nature was playing tricks on me. I did not see a single cloud until I had made it back to my dorm. Because I did not see any clouds, I reflected back to when I was younger running around while looking at the sky wondering what the clouds were doing. I thought that I controlled the clouds because they would move when I would and stopped when I did. It never ceases to amaze me the things that little children think. Back to the fact that Mother Nature is playing tricks on me. While I was trying to find clouds, I can feel something crawling on my arm. It was a SPIDER! It took everything in my being not to kill it. The spider was just the beginning. For the rest of my time there was always something either on my chair or me.
For my ten minute focused time I had my eyes closed, this was probably a bad idea in hindsight. I could hear the running water of the creek. The birds singing in their own songs. Earlier I saw birds hopping in the leaves. Twice a plane flew over head and drowned out the peaceful sounds of my sit spot. I could hear something rummaging through the leaves, it probably was a squirrel looking for food. I could feel the wind blowing and hear the leaves rustling. There was a lot of slight touches from where flies and other bugs were walking across my arms and legs. As the time went on, I could feel the suns position change as the tree behind me started to block the sun.
This time at my sit spot has helped my “irrational” fears, as some might call them, grow. There were way too many creatures coming after me for my liking. As I was leaving, I noticed a bird’s nest in the tree. It reminded me of the conversation we had about commensalism in class. The birds were having a blast this week.
I like how you just clearly stated that you had almost fallen into a creek! It was funny how you said ” after the near fall experience”. I also had trouble with not having any clouds when I went out for my sit-spot!
Funny how those branch deers don’t move much! Lovely shades of blue in the sky – sorry that your time in your spot generated more fears than connection!
