I went straight from the barn after work to my spot at around 4:30. Due to the time change, the sun was already rather low in the sky and was creating the “golden hour” effect. The whole area was lit up in a warm light and was nice to look at for the concentrated focus. The whole area, aside from the golden light, was brown and almost desolate. The bushes surrounding the pond resembled upright twigs more than anything else. Very few leaves remained on the shrubbery and trees.
My three objects were looking a little worse for wear. The small (sapling?) tree was almost completely barren with the exception of a few shriveled and brown leaves clinging to the top branches. The tree on the bank had finally started to catch up with its surroundings and its leaves were now brown and red. It was still pretty much solely green last time, so it changed in a very short amount of time. The large tree by the pond was sparsely populated with leaves, but the ones that remained were yellow and green, creating an ombre effect from top to bottom.
At the time I was at my spot, there were no clouds in the sky, leaving a wide blue expanse to look up at. But the setting sun provided me with something interesting to watch for the allotted time. As it went down past the point where I could view it, my surroundings became darker and revealed how bleak they were without bright green leaves to brighten up the area. But the “golden hour” sun was very lovely to sit in a watch as it bathed the surroundings before disappearing.
I chose to focus on the pond for 10 minutes. It was as bright as ever with vivid greens floating around below the surface. It had seemed to acquire even more algae than last time. There was no shortage of bugs skimming the surface, but I still have yet to see any sort of fish in the water. Even when the sun dipped below view, the pond never lacked color with the blue reflecting from the sky and the green from the algae and surrounding grass.
My spot was very pleasant at this time of day. Though, there was a constant banging sound from where a workout was taking place under the bridge. The sound of flipping tires was rather distracting when trying to focus on a pond. I think in the future I will try to come around this time in the afternoon again, since it was really enjoyable with the constantly shifting light from the setting sun.
Also, the little “saved” memo that pops up when writing on here is not accurate. I learned this the hard way and will be writing on Google Docs from now on.
That must be nice to experience “golden hour” during your sit spot! I’m sure the sky looked amazing! It’s such a shame that all the trees are empty and have no leaves!! Mine have no leaves too 🙁
I love that time of day – the long soft light makes any place beautiful. Even with the sound of flopping tires!
