The spot that I chose to sit at was by a fence in my backyard, facing the south. I chose this spot because I never really sit or go into my backyard, it’s just there. Also there is a lot of overgrowth, trees, insects and wildlife there depending on the time of year. A plethora of plants and undergrowth has been generating from a partially uprooted tree stump in my backyard that is a result of a hurricane two years ago.
I see a multitude of plant vines and bushes near my fence. There’s a tall tree, that I don’t know the species of with bright green leaves. There’s a lot of gnats and mosquitoes flying around, trying to suck my blood and I saw a butterfly pass by. All of the plants are still green and healthy due to the summer weather. The soil is wet but not soaked enough to be muddy.
While sitting out there, the clouds were semi dark but the sky was nearly clear. There was a grey hue. There were sudden breezes from time to time and I was expecting ran, as it usually happens a lot in the summer months but luckily that didn’t happen. The air smells of wet dew from when it last rained and I heard the bugs buzzing around along with the rustling of the trees when the breezes came through which was slightly calming.
My first time in my sit spot wasn’t anything spectacular. I was happy that I didn’t see the occasional plethora of snakes that are sometimes in my backyard because I do not like or trust wild snakes. I’m hoping to see some more interesting things in the future.
The three objects that I want to focus on are the tree stump that I mentioned earlier, the now only tree in my backyard and a set of vines that are growing off of my fence. The reason why I want to focus on the tree is because it was the smallest tree in my backyard before the other trees fell down so I never really paid attention to it before because it was on the side of our backyard and isn’t as big and mighty as our other trees. I want to focus on the tree stump because I’ve already been watching everything that’s started growing from it from my window because I didn’t think anything would grow from it because I always thought that tree stumps were essentially dead and would never have anything else happening because of them, growth wise. Lastly, I wanted to study those specific vines because they have a different leaf shape compared to what other vines I saw on the fence and I wonder if that will have an impact on how it grows and changes as time goes on.
