11/08/2020 (9:20-10:30am) (Morning)
For my 5th sit-spot I decided to go in the morning. All my previous sit-spots have been during the afternoon so this was a really nice change for me and allowed me to pick a different time of day I had not experienced before. I started my sit-spot at 9:20 and stayed until 10:30 that morning. I decided to go in the morning because it was most convenient for me this past weekend than the options of going at dusk or night since I don’t live on campus.
I really enjoyed my morning sit-spot a lot. It was really cool with a temperature of 57 degrees and there was a slight breeze occasionally. The sun was trying to peek through the clouds and it wasn’t overbearing and beaming down right on me. It provided the right amount of light and warmth. The sky was blue and there were lots of clouds littering the sky. The most notable change since sit-spot number four were the trees. Last time the trees were at their peak with lots of vibrant colors but this time around the trees had lost a majority of their leaves. I was shocked to see that change since not to long ago they were there. I didn’t see any animals but I definitely heard tons of bird songs and calls. This was probably the most active I’ve ever heard them. I think one of the birds I was hearing may have been a Blue Jay. I’m making this prediction because when I was collecting data for my research project I was hearing the exact same sound I would hear at my house. Plus I could see Blue Jays at my house which lead me to look up their sounds and they matched. I really liked going to my sit-spot in the morning because it was super calming with the cool breeze and the birds singing around me. I would like to go more often in the morning if I’m able to make time.
The experience at my sit-spot during the day vs the morning were not that different from each other. I say this because there weren’t any drastic differences that stood out to me. I didn’t see anything I wouldn’t have seen if I went in the afternoon. They were different in terms of temperature and bird activity. I think the increase in bird activity could be do to less lighting in the morning and not being as bright. I read an article that mentioned birds will sing more in the morning because there is less light for them to go foraging so they use that time to warm up there voices. Lastly, I enjoyed it and would do it again.
I love upper 50 degree weather! Do you think that the temperature could have had an affect on the birds activity more so than the time of day?
