I knew my sit spot the first day I heard our assignment. I went out on a small adventure near Roanoke and found a small park the first day I moved into Hollins. This park brings me so much joy. I have never seen an area so green and inviting. It is very hilly with lots of trees and park benches. I found this beautiful large tree in a huge field of grass. This spot overlooks the mountains and has the best sundown every-night. This place isn’t just my sit spot. I come here when I need a breather, if it’s a pretty day, and if I need to do homework without my room as a distraction.

The plants in the area are mostly shrubs, tall tall trees, and green clover grass. The grass was just cut and the human-made lines in the grass are so satisfying. I can’t stop looking at the grass surrounding me. My shoes are off, my sunglasses are on and the suns rays are beating down hard. The trees have leaves falling almost every 30 seconds. I somehow chose a spot with sticks everywhere. My blanket is protecting me from that of course. I think I might have also sat on an ant farm because ants are coming from all directions. Ive never seen them this bad here. The air smells natural and almost relaxing. I feel fresh and clean when I am here.

The ground is awfully hard but also has a nice cushion from the grass. The leaves that have fallen are all cut up from the lawnmower, but there’s constantly leaves falling, dead and alive. I love how some are already turning yellow and light orange. I hear chirping from all directions, crickets singing, and flies buzzing in my ear as they fly past. I saw a doe and her momma crossing a path, but they quickly ran along.

I love the spot that I have chosen and I am so glad I get to come here and write about my experience as an assignment. Being alone outside in a safe space is one of my favorite hobbies. I hope I can see how this park evolves over the fall and winter. I already know I will be coming here for as long as I can imagine. I want to follow the shrub directly behind me, the tree I am lying against, and the biggest tree I can see here.

To end my journal I want to talk about the church that is directly in view of the mountains. The cross sticks up so high and you can see the sun beating behind in into the mountain. I definitely have a religious side to me, so it makes me very comfortable seeing the cross in my line of sight. I hope to come here and really feel better about myself while studying this environment so closely.
