The first fifteen minutes at my sit spot were the most amazing that I’ve experienced so far. There was so much more activity than any of the other times I had gone to my sit spot. Towards the very beginning of the fifteen minutes, I heard cawing above me and, while at first, I didn’t think anything of it, eventually I chose to look up and saw a large bird, that reminded me of a crow, land in the big oak tree near another of the same birds. They occasionally moved but were mostly staying in one place, though even their small movements caused leaves to fall down to the ground. Eventually, maybe about five minutes in, one of the birds flew away, spreading its wings and flying off into the distance. While the other followed after another 5-10 minutes. I would like to look into what these birds were as while they reminded me of crows, they almost seemed too large actually to be crows.
Beyond the birds, I also noticed a squirrel in the oak tree. It moved a lot more than the birds did as it moved along the tree, knocking down several leaves as it scurried along the tree. I followed its movements and saw it jump from the oak tree onto the branches of a pine tree across the way. The tree limbs bounced, but I could also see the squirrel scurrying into the tree, so I know that it did not fall.
Continuing on with the animal theme, I watched a tiny invertebrate known as the black ant while I was at my sit spot. While I did not spot it carrying any food, I did make sure to watch its movement patterns. I noticed that unless the ant was traveling on the stem of a leaf or on a twig, where it was more narrow, the little ants traveled in a zig-zag
While there are many animals in my sit spot, there’s not actually a decently sized water source such as a stream or lake nearby. Most water would come from either the rain or from an underground source for the plants while I imagine that the animals take water from sources that are not within my sit spot.
As I concluded my time at my sit spot, I did look at my three chosen items once more, but the most significant change that I saw with my three items was that more leaves had fallen around and onto my different items. In fact, I would have to say the biggest change from the other times at my sit spot was that it was much more cloudy than it had been the other days I had sat there. The sky was filled with light gray clouds, as I observed. Looking back on my time at my sit spot, I think that I lost some focus this time around. However, my lost focus didn’t come from my phone; it came from seeing the birds and squirrels within the first fifteen minutes. They were just so exciting to see that while I did notice some other things, I was mainly focused on the animals that I had observed. All in all, though, I enjoyed my experience this time around in my sit spot!
I liked the flying pattern of the bird you talked about. I too during my sit spot noticed that the bird eventually follows each other. Its good to see how those birds remain in the group united.
I appreciate your enthusiasm! good blog
