I visited my sit spot at dusk that is from 4:02 pm-5:10 pm just because I had never visited during this time of the day. The sky looked beautiful as the sun was setting. More leaves had fallen from the trees which are why there was a lot more foliage in the ground. The entire surrounding looked very empty and bush honeysuckle, which is one of my three things had also lost all of its leaves. I felt the same way during my previous sit spot visit but I realized that now there’s absolutely nothing left.
Over this semester, a lot has changed in my sit spot. For instance, I remember when I was looking for a sit spot for the first time, I had to walk inside a bush and I was terrified to enter. Now when I look at it, so much has changed in that very place. From all green to slightly green and slightly yellow, to all leaves gone, I sure have enjoyed every bit of the changes that the trees and plants have faced in my sit spot.
I normally do not see many insects in my sit spot. Luckily, I saw a moth during this session. I found it a little unusual. I heard birds in a distance but I couldn’t see any of them. The sound of the water in the creek is very prominent which is why it is a little difficult to recognize the bird sounds. The temperature was 49 degrees and it was slightly windy. It wasn’t as cold as I thought it would be this time around. Out of the three things I chose to follow, the one that experienced the most change up till now is the bush honeysuckle. During my previous session, there were still some leaves left on that plant but now there’s absolutely nothing left.
The waterfall had fluctuating levels of water during this semester. But now it is as it used to be before. The broken trees never had much going on around them and they did not change with time. I chose my three things initially because they looked super interesting. As time passed, they kept becoming more and more fascinating.
During this session, knowing that it is my last one, I felt a little emotional. It is as though I have built a certain attachment to this site and these sessions. Every time I visited, I felt relaxed and it worked like a stress reliever for me. It has definitely helped me become more comfortable with nature and has taught me to admire nature a lot more. The coolest thing I saw in my sit spot was a water strider.
Getting to learn more about it was even more exciting. While thinking about it later, one thing I will always remember is running in the creek to get a good picture of the water strider.
Your pictures are so pretty! It’s so cool to see how something so lush and vibrant can become so…not. (I don’t want to say ‘dead’, because it’s not really.)
