As fall has bade goodbye and winter is here, almost ninety percent of the trees around the campus are bare. The sycamore fruits have fallen in the ground all dry, brown and still thorny. I remembered that the sycamore tree which act as a roof to my sit spot had 30-40% of the green and yellow leaves in my last blog. So, I hoped that there were still some leaves left in my sit-spot. But all my hopes disappeared in the chilly wind of December when I reached my sit-spot. All the trees were naked, and the place looks brown, sad and empty. For a moment, I hesitated to go to the place because I felt bad about the place. With all efforts, I went to my sit spot, only one small tree plant and some grasses were green, else everything was dry brown.
The weather was warm today with not a single cloud in the sky. It was surprising to see not a single patch of white in the sky, but may be because of the absence of the clouds, the place was warm. This made me easier to sit in my spot without shivering. As it was warmer for me, I feel like it was warm for birds too. There were many little birds flying and singing around me. They might be trying to complete their regular duty of searching food within this warm time. I also saw a bright red colored bird with pointed head. This was the first time I saw this bird here.
Many things have changed in between my last journal and today. Since all the trees are naked, it’s difficult to trace the plant. I almost did not recognize the red berry plant but later realized that plant was just at my side. The blue berry was also naked, but it still has one patch of berry. Sycamore tree still has some fruits in it, but its leaves and fruits are all over the ground. Similarly, the stream has more clear water today with dry leaves floating on the surface. A red leafed plant is still in the bank of stream, I wonder how it is surviving the cold.
Although the day is sunny and warm, the wind is still blowing around. I can listen the wind flowing smoothly sweeping away the leaves of the ground. It feels magical in the real word. I can also see the left leaves on the tree dancing along the flow of the wind. The strange thing today that I heard was the sound made by squirrel. It was in up in the branches and was making the sound of chopping or rubbing the woods. It was strange and creepy too.
Since, this was the last journal. I felt more connection with my sit spot and the bright weather helped me in so. I am grateful that I chose this wonderful and peaceful place as my sit-spot.
Wow! I loved your pictures and descriptions of your sit spot and the changes it is experiencing. It was so cool to read how closely you have been monitoring your spot. I was also cool to see just how many of your plants are surviving the cold, and how a few of your berry plants are still holding up strongly. All of the plants that I was monitoring closely did not survive the seasonal change, so it was interesting to see your different results!
