I arrived at my sit-spot an hour after sunrise (dawn – 7:54am – 9:00am). The temperature was 54 degrees Fahrenheit, the sun was shining as much as it does at 7:54am, there was no breeze or cloud cover, and the general vibe of the morning was peaceful and quiet. On sit-spot number four, I went during the day. This sit-spot I chose to go during dawn because I have never gone during this time throughout my sit-spot journal entries. I figured that it would be calm with no human traffic and the sunrise (kind of) would be a prettier view than when I normally go, which is around dusk.

The very blue/clear sky

There were not as many insects making noise, birds chirping, or animals roaming around as there was during my last session. I was not sure if this depended on the time of day, or that the weather was becoming cooler, or because of the time change. The weather was actually decent for a November day, all I had to wear was a light sweater. The sky was a beautiful blue with no clouds in sight. The sky almost appeared as soothing. I did not see as may animals as I thought I would which surprised me because I figured animals would be active first thing in the morning. I saw two squirrels during the whole time I was at my sit-spot, one was to the north across the creek from me, and the other was farther to the east of me just as I was leaving. Both of the squirrels were very calm and not running around as they normally are when I see them. I thought that maybe the squirrels were not on edge because there was no chaos coming from humans this early in the morning. Also, toward the end of my session, I saw a pretty bird that came swooping down almost directly at me and went up into a tree that I was sitting beside. This bird looked like it was hiding behind what little leaves were left on the trees. This bird blended into the leaves because its chest was orange like the leaves.

I thought the sun looked neat coming through the trees

Compared to my last sit-spot session, the leaves have changed to all being completely changed in color, meaning that no leaves other than those on evergreens were green. Most of the trees were bare and/or starting to become bare. There was not as much foot traffic, lawn mower running, or the sounds of trucks backing up behind a building as there was last time. This could very well have been due to the time of day, but I didn’t mind the peaceful sound of nothing as I sat and observed my surrounds during my session today. During my session today, I could hear lots of movement in the small wooded area behind me, but I could not see any signs of movement I just heard which may have scared me a little. I did not feel that organism were that much different than they were during the day, I think that the weather and season has to do with the smaller animal activity. If I did not have to wake up so early, I would really like go to do my session during this time of day all the time, because of how peaceful and silent everything is. This allows me to really sink down into nature without having to tune out all the other nonnatural things around me.

I thought the plants beside the creek looks odd/cool by how they almost looked squished

the bird I saw that blended in almost perfectly
