I arrived at my sit spot for this round of observations at 12:45 am during the middle of the day. I have not been to my spot for this time of day before, so it was really interesting to observe the differences. I choose this time of day because I hoped that there would definitely be some differences from my usual time that I observe which is dusk or in the evenings in general.
The last few times I have been at my sit spot I have noticed fewer and fewer leaves. During this set of observations I noticed that almost all of the leaves were gone. It made the plants that have not lost their leaves yet stand out even more. The only plants with a lot of color left were some shrubs, vines, and the few coniferous trees in the distance. Even the grass is starting to loose its vibrancy, especially with the many brown leaves covering it.
The weather started out cool and nice but over the course of my time at my sit spot it started to sprinkle and then rain quite hard. The temperature is definitely consistently lower. Because of the rain the sky was incredibly overcast. It made it feel much later than it actually was. The rain also seemed to lessen the animal activity. The little bit that I observed seemed to start to decrease as the rain increased. When I first got there a squirrel was moving around in the leaf litter but as the rain came he must have found somewhere to hunker down. I also heard a crow, and then during my time there saw it fly through the area my sit spot is in but it didn’t linger.
I would like to come to my sit spot again during this time of day because I think the rain might have thrown off my observations. I don’t really have anything to compare it to though because I have never observed during this time period so I think returning during the day would be beneficial.
This session was unique because of the time of day as well as the rain. However, the rain made it harder to observe so I would like to make more observations during this time of day without the rain. It also made it pretty cold and unpleasant to be outside for long periods of time. There definitely seemed to be less animal activity, although I’m not sure if this is due to the time of day or the rain. It would be hard to know which one impacted this without further observations.
At my last visit to my sit-spot I noticed a lot of the leaves had fallen too, and I noticed a lot more trees and plants than I’m used to seeing. Great pictures of your sit spot!
