During my 15 minutes of concentrated focus I tuned into my sit spot as a whole! I focused on how quiet but loud my surrounding was. It was quiet because of the no sounds, I didn’t hear any birds or any squirrels running around the trees, it was completely silent (minus the cars on the opposite side of my house). It was loud because of how vibrant the area was. The leaves were dusty and dry but bright. The sun was lightly shinning and it was lightly lighting up my backyard. Even the air was affecting me. It was a really pretty morning. I looked at how even though the season is changing all of the trees in my spot are changing slowly in their own ways. One is still full of leaves and one is covered by shrubbery while another is almost completely empty. The grass is looking a lot more like grass and not a mixture between green and brown patches. Nothing happened during my concentrated focus, I only saw a tiny fly. There was nothing to truly grab my attention away from just appreciating my spot so I am sure that there wasn’t anything for me to miss when I was answering this question.
Looking back from the very beginning a lot about my objects have changed. The tree I decided to follow is almost completely empty when in the beginning it was full of colorful leaves!
The grassy area I was following is practically the same, it just looks fuller than the beginning and even a little lighter which I think is caused by the less sun activity.
The walnut has had a dramatic transition, it is completely black now!
My sky focus was probably the best part of this sit spot session. It was incredibly soothing and instantly changed my outlook. The sky was pretty clear. There were a few clouds in the sky but not many. Most of the clouds in the sky I identified as cirrus because of how thin and wispy they were. The clouds weren’t full/ thick enough to be considered any of the other ones and if they aren’t cirrus then I think they would fall under the unusual clouds category because they don’t have a real “shape or shine!” They weren’t special clouds that could be considered any of the other types of leaves. When I first walked outside I had a feeling that I was going to be freezing cold because the days before I decided to do this sit spot were cold and chilly because of how strong the wind was blowing but while I was doing this sit spot there was little to no wind. There would be a slight wind but not enough to make me feel cold or even be able to tell which direction the wind was coming from. Although there weren’t many clouds in the sky at my spot this was still an interesting experience!
At first I had decided to focus on a small area in my location but there was nothing. So after trying to find something for maybe 2-3 minutes I gave up because it was like nothing was awake during this time so I changed to focusing on my area with my eyes closed. This was really a quiet morning, I didn’t hear anything besides the low rustling of the leaves when a tiny bit of wind blew in. There was enough wind to make the hairs on my arm stand up and make me feel colder than I previously had been feeling. My spot was completely blank today it was hard to find anything to focus on, even talk about :(.
Since my spot has been so empty and quiet lately it has made it really hard to connect even more than I have been in the last blog’s but overall it is still an awesome experience and I really do enjoy just spending time in my backyard. This entire assignment has made me more open to the idea of nature and enjoying the beauty of the things around me. Its made me appreciate something that I could’ve carried less about four to five months ago. It’s really an exciting adventure learning more about my surroundings and all nature has to offer.
I loved your descriptions of your spot – you really conveyed the beauty! It’s interesting how little activity there was, maybe the other creatures thought it would be too cold as well!
Great pictures Jenee – glad that you have connected to your space! good work
