My sit spot is a large rock separating the small, shallow end of a stream from the slightly deeper, more populated river bed. Sitting on my rock I have a
fantastic view of the slow moving water and its inhabitants. I knew that I wanted to have my spot

in the garden, as I found the quiet tranquil and the location easy to get to. While wandering across the red bridge I came across an area with a path across the stream. This path is made of several large rocks, and I figured out that if I sit on one, I have a great view of not  only the surrounding trees, but also the mossy rocks and the river bed. It is quiet and vibrant, with many interesting sights to watch, which is how I knew that I had chosen the right place.

When I settled into my sit spot the first thing that I noticed was the sky.  Overcast with only slivers of sunlight peeking through, it was beautiful. Then I noticed the smell of freshly cut grass and a hint of rain lingering in the air. Upon paying further attention I then noticed the sheer amount of bugs trying to consume my blood, and made a mental note to bring bug spray next time. The sounds were one of my favorite parts. I could hear the gentle gurgle of the stream, the noise of cicadas, and in a tree close by a squirrel screamed. I did not know that this was something that squirrels did, and I first thought that it was a bird. However, after I made eye contact with it and watched it scream at me, I learned that this was something that squirrels could do.

One of the reasons that I like the stream is that there was no shortage of animals to watch. The first ones that I noticed were all of the water striders sliding across the surface. Then I saw movement out of the corner of my eye and I observed a crayfish crawling out from under a rock. He crept forward slowly, picking at the ground until my shadow moved and startled him like the flash back under his rock. Then a small fish looking creature swam past, scarring another smaller crayfish that had come out from under another rock. The most interesting however was a small salamander that crept through the water before taking a nap on a rock. Unfortunately my movement to take a picture startled it, but it was fantastic to watch while I could.

I found my sit spot experience very relaxing. I wasn’t sure if I would like it at first since, while

I like being outside, sitting in one place can be boring. However, I really enjoyed my view of the stream and had a hard time leaving once my time was up. Of the things in my view I chose a rock with plants and moss on it to watch, algae on the stream, and a willow  tree growing on the bank.

I am interested to see if the algae will go away as the stream gets colder. With the rock, I wonder how the different plants will all respond to the changing season. Lastly, I have never seen a willow          Algae patch

tree in the fall so I am really looking forward to it.
