11:51 am-1:04 pm
I arrived at my sit spot at 11:51 am and got out at 1:04 pm on 1st November 2019, Friday. I chose this time of the day because I have never visited my sit spot during mid-day. I initially planned on going over that morning but I could not wake up. Luckily, my chemistry class got canceled and I got time to do it that very noon/afternoon. It was a whole new experience and I am glad since I have a lot to share in this blog.
The weather was not bad that day. It was 59oF and it was sunny but there was a cold breeze. I thought it wouldn’t be very cold which is why I did not wear warm clothes and I regretted that decision a lot. The wind was quite chilly. This weather is equivalent to the winter weather in Nepal. I cannot imagine how winter here is going to be like.
The sky was very clear and the sun was right on top of me. Everything looked very beautiful. Not trying to exaggerate, but it all looked like a painting. All the leaves from the trees surrounding my sit spot area had fallen off. The entire area looked empty but in a very good way. There was much more foliage than the last time I visited my sit spot.
This time in my sit spot, I could not hear as many insects as I used to before. I tried to listen very carefully but I could only hear the water and some buzzes (ones that I could not identify). I did see three specific insects and I made sure I noted them down. First I saw tiny grass bugs and there were a lot of then clustered in one area. I saw them as soon as I arrived at my sit spot. I had never noticed them before and it made me think if there was anything in that area that attracted them towards it.
Another insect I saw was a moth. It was cream-ish white. It kept flying around and then it disappeared for some time and then again showed up. This was again my first time seeing a moth in my sit spot. Lastly, next insects I saw were water striders and I have indeed seen them before in the creek below my sit spot. The water level was higher this time so I couldn’t go down to the creek to take a picture.
Finally, the three things that I have been observing since my first sit spot journal. First, the waterfall has looks larger now. There is more water in the creek and it looks more beautiful than ever. The level of water had gone down a couple of weeks ago but now it is much higher and that makes me happy.
Secondly, the umbrella-shaped tree is growing week after week. There were more buds in the tree this time around and it looks even prettier now. I found out that it is Amur Honeysuckle recently. In my third object which was a broken tree, nothing had changed. It was the same and was just lying down there.
I had a good time during my sit spot observation. It felt very peaceful even though it was right in the middle of the day. I had a very stressful week and this felt like an escape from everything. I am glad I chose that timing because it was very relaxing for me.
At my sit spot it was also much colder than I anticipated. I need to check the weather more often. I really enjoyed reading your description of the beautiful nature around you! The insects you found also seem very interesting and fun to watch. Good job identifying the tree-I had no clue what it was haha. I’m glad you got to destress a little and that you enjoyed this time in nature!
Your sit spot is absolutely beautiful and you take great pictures! My previous sit spots have been during the day/afternoon and I agree that it’s very relaxing during that time of day. I’ve never looked into the creek at my sit spot to find insects but since you found water striders I’ll be sure to check next time I visit.
I loved reading your blog and I loved your pictures! You took great ones- seeing them made me feel like I was there with you. It’s interesting that you saw so many insects! With the changing weather, I see very few at my sit spot. However, my sit spot is not near the water so I’m curious if that has any role in it! I’m so glad to hear the water levels have returned from being lower- it was interesting to read about all of the details you’ve been paying close attention to!
