I visited my sit spot from around 3pm to 4:30pm. The air outside was very crisp and it was about 40 degrees when it was warmest. As I was sitting there, I could feel the temperature dropping as the sun was moving down across the mountains. Thankfully, there was not much wind, so I was able to manage with just a standard jacket to stay warm. The sky was clear over where i was, but there were some clouds coming in over the horizon, and the sun was just starting to set in the sky, casting a glowing ambiance around my sit spot, as you can see in many of the pictures that i took that day, versus the first day pictures.
These are the before and after pictures of my sit-spot mountain view. You can see how over time the colours on the trees have changed and now some of the trees are missing their leaves. It is quite an exceptional view and was quite amazing to watch develop. The leaves all changed colors and now the mountains are full of a colourful mass of trees, unlike the very green ones that were there at the beginning.
The purple flower that i had found in this location was replaced by some daises that had grown. I am still not sure what type of flower this purple flower was, I just know it was destroyed when it was run over by a lawn mower, or picked up by someone who thought it was pretty. As you can see for the ground, the grasses around the tree are starting to wither away in preparation for the winter seasons. This purple flower has since been replaced by some daisies, though i am unsure on how they managed to get there. I think i preferred my purple flower to the daisies, the purple flower was just so much more interesting to look at with all of it’s spikes and layering.
The tree that I have been looking at has continued to gross the leaves around it, and as you can see by the second picture, they have continued to grow longer and more frequently, as they are reaching the ground. It has been interesting to watch this tree develop and watch the vines travel up and down the different parts of the tree trunk. I am still unsure as to if this tree will eventually succumb due to the leaves taking over, or if they both benefit off of one another.
This experience has been a new one for me. In all honesty, i did not like it, especially the sit spot that was done at night. The sit-spot took too much time out of my already busy schedule and it was very hard to work around. The one positive is that it overlooked the mountains, which were quite beautiful. I already knew that I do not like to be forced to be out in nature, i have to want to do it myself to truly enjoy the experience so therefore i did not learn anything about myself from this experience. I think the ‘coolest’ thing I was able to see were the lights that lit up the clouds over Roanoke at night, or the sunset over the mountains. Really, anything to do with the mountains. They are very interesting to look at and to watch. If I am to look back on this in a years time, I think that is the only thing i will remember, being in the cold, dark, mountain air, and watching the Roanoke city lights light up the underside of the clouds.
Your sit spot is stunning! I’m sorry that your flower has disappeared, so are the mysteries of nature, but I agree that it is prettier than the daisies. It was so much more complex and intricate which I am sure made it more fun to look at.

Your sit spot is so pretty! And I understand how it was hard to find time in my schedule to do this too.
I really love the angles of your sit spot photos! I love your honesty in your post
What a cute little flower! That’s so sad it disappeared, but I think your spot looked very peaceful. I never though I would find such a nice view on campus I would like to watch change throughout the semester. Great job making it through!
