My sit-spot is beside the bridge just on the left hand side of Plantation Road and across from the Alumnae House. It is only surrounded by trees and water, not many animals tend to be in or near my spot unless its at night when the deer make an appearance. The trees block any sunlight from shining directly over my spot so it is incredibly shady, which makes being there in the cold 10x worse! When I first went, it was at night so I didn’t see how it looked in the daylight but even at night the green leaves on trees were vibrant with color, the water was incredibly quiet but still moved in at an uptity motion! The ground wasn’t incredibly hard. The birds were still flying around but now its quiet, unless crickets are around. The trees are naked but the ground is covered with the now brown, orange and yellow leaves from the trees! The water is slow moving but still moving! The ground is harder, unless it is wet! It’s like I go to an entirely different place! So much has changed in such a short amount of time! The same heavily green area that I chose to be my spot, is now bare!

When visiting my spot for this last sit-spot, it was bittersweet! Just to know that this could possibly be my last time tuning into the spot that I have ultimately formed a connection with, was sad! This final sit-spot I got to see the beauty of nature while it is beginning its change from the fall season into the winter season. The trees in my area are completely bare, the ground is covered but not as full as it used to be. The temperatures are dropping with the wind picking up, especially on December 4 around 3:15! The water slowly but surely flowing and a rock hard and cold ground! No big animals, small squirrels hurrying around for nuts! It was starting to look less like the fall atmosphere that I had so enjoyed at my sit-spot!

My sit spot isn’t around much so there weren’’t many options for my three objects! So on my first visit I had ultimately chose to watch the water because of it being the only moving thing at my spot! Its changed slowly over the course of these visits. It was very fast moving in the beginning but now it is slowing down as the temperatures seem to get colder. The second object I chose to watch was the very first tree on the right hand side because of my spot being mostly trees. It is bare! The green leaves are gone, and the bark looks like it lost a little color too, which National Wildlife said was completely normal, but it could have also just been because of the dark night and bright day difference! The last object I chose to study was hard to find, especially after being told to find more specific objects, but was the way the ground changes along with the seasons. I chose this object because of me initially not realizing that it also changes as the seasons change!

I can honestly say I enjoyed this experience! When first starting this I didn’t think I was going to enjoy this because of my dislike for nature! It has never been a factor for me, I love looking at it but spending time in it, just wasn’t my favorite thing for me! I gained a lot of new outlooks that never seemed to cross my mind. I love the simplicity of sitting outside and just soaking up the beautiful features of nature that I never realized were there! I liked being able to just disconnect from life and not have a 101 things crossing my mind but also not being around anything but trees and water. This sit spot also changed my outlook on the late night and early morning! I have been afraid of the dark since I could truly remember but because of my night visit I am no longer AS scared as I used to be! My morning visit changed my outlook on being a morning person, it made me want to get up earlier so I could be more productive. Overall this sit-spot has made me a more open person. I hated nature, bugs, sitting on the ground and definitely the night, and waking up earlier but going to my spot 5 times has altered all of my opinions and or feelings!

The coolest experience I had, had to be when I was arguing with myself during sit spot #5! I had gone at 6:15 in the morning and it was FREEZING! I wanted to give up so badly and just come back during the day but I yelled at myself (I promise it was in my head and not out loud)! Although it was freezing and windy I stuck it out, and experienced the quietest sit spot yet! It also was the least interesting spot which I think in the long run set in stone my joy of nature! It showed me the downside of nature that only people who are truly interested notice but I luckily got to experience so I will definitely remember that one the most!
