Early Afternoon and as I sit all I hear is the loud sounds of the Cicadas. They grow louder then in unison they become quiet. The sound is just as a pester as the sound of your phone alarm in the morning, but just like that you get used to it. It is almost like I became one with the Cicadas from being outside for so long. Not only am I hearing the sounds of the Cicadas but I also hear the cars. Being almost in the middle of both the roads I thought of that Robert Frost poem. “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,” but there was no yellow wood and I was not taking either road. If I had to choose a road I most certainly would have chose the one less traveled by because it was quieter. The constant sounds of the other road creates a non peaceful environment. Every five seconds, “BOOM BOOM” from the cars hitting the bumps on the road but while it might have disturbed me the animals I saw did not seem to find issue with it. For instance the bird I saw.
While out in my half way peaceful area I saw a bird. I was determined to make that bird be my friend. Some how some way. I gave her a name, then proceeded to feel bad because I don’t know whether it was a boy or girl. She was a white bird and was still for almost the whole time I was out there. Her stillness started to worry me, I began to question if she was real. I thought since she was so still I would have the perfect opportunity to take pictures of her. As soon as I try, off she goes! So of course I take off with her, I wanted to be as close as possibly but I guess in her eyes I was disturbing her peace just as those cars were treating my peace. Sally traveled far away from me to a point of no return so I decided to not follow her. Just as I thought there would be no more animals to look at another bird came and flew by. The hair on his head made him look like an evil scientist on a TV show so I named him Boomi. When I tried to get close to him he flew away as well. It seems like my luck with creatures is not so great on the other hand there was this small dragonfly that seemed to take liking to me and as much as I hate bugs I still let him be near.
There was dew on the grass from the early morning, ripples in the water, leaves on the ground and a cool breeze. The perfect afternoon. Maybe next time I’ll discover the end of the lake or maybe find a creature that wouldn’t mind posing for a picture with me, until next time
.
I am very curious as to where your sit spot is? I do not recognize it but it is really pretty. I love your descriptions and the fact that you named the birds. I also admire the fact that despite your hate for bugs, you became part of your surroundings and allowed the dragonfly to come near you. It would be awesome,if you see it again, to try and get a good picture of him. They are beautiful bugs. I do not like bugs either so I sympathize with you. I can’t wait to see some expanded pictures of the area to see what else is around where your spot is. The pictures seem a little close up and almost claustrophobic. Is that just how the whole area is or is there more that you can see? Just curious. It is kinda cool (that if it is all that enclosed) how secluded it is.
My sit spot is close to Dana. Its close to where Liz took us on our first day of lab but I walked further down!
Is this the duck pond that is across the road from Tinker? Your pictures are very pretty, but I am also curious as to where your sit spot is located. I love how descriptive your writing is and I would love to see a picture of your bird friend!
I was definitely able to relate with immersing in the sounds of the cicadas. That was one of the first things I noticed at my sit-spot as well. I loved your description of the birds. There was a bird at my spot that hung out for a while, but I never thought of giving it a name! Like the others, I am curious as to where your spot is located, it looks beautiful!
I loved this. Your detail made me feel like I was with you and at the spot. I loved how much detail there was and your reference to the Robert frost poem. While reading this I became very calm and relaxed. Your sit spot seems very nice!
