I wanted/ had to pick my sit spot on campus. I wanted to pick sit spot where there are rarely any people, so I decide to pick my spot behind Dana and the museum. It is a nice place next to the forest and a creek where you can hear and see a lot of natural sightings. I also wanted my spot to be next to the forest so that maybe by a slight chance of luck I could see a wild animal come out of the forest and watch their behavior just for fun. I also loved the different species of trees that were by my sit spot, my favorite tree was a tree that had these beautiful white flowers that had been bloomed. I also wanted that spot because of the creek because if you listen hard enough you kind of hear the water, but I don’t know if there are any organism that live in the creek, not that I have seen at least.
The plants that were around me consisted of big trees, and my favorite tree was west to me and it had beautiful white flowers that bloomed. There were trees that were located south of me that have beautiful vines that are growing on the them from the trunk of the tree up to about halfway of the tree. The one tree that is farthest south form me had many species of what looked like shrubs growing by the trunk of the tree. The ground was covered in grass that was very green and long, and it looks like the grass had not been cut in a few weeks. Many were long rectangular shaped blades of gras, but here was also many what looks liked to be clovers.
I heard many insects like cicadas, some crickets, and a bee. I was looking enough to see a monarch butterfly that had orange and black coloring. I also saw a bird, what I assume was a hawk, that was soaring in the skies above me. On the of the main things that I got to see though was this insect that hanged out with me on a blade of grass for about 15 minutes. It had what looked light to be a dark brown head, wings that were clear, and a body that was long and was the color of a light yellow with black stripes on the body. I also got to see a brown gopher that was running behind the museum. So non-natural things I saw was the buildings, lamp posts, and a group of girls that came about halfway of my observations that were siting about 100 ft north of me. I could hear a car pass by and the sound of a lawn mower in the distance.
The air smelt fresh, I say it smelt fresh because it was refreshing, and it did not smell of pollution, or grass, or of any animal feces. When I first got to my sit spot location the sky was clear and sunny with a few white clouds that were beautiful, but later on light gray clouds took over the sky and you young not see the sun, and you had some glimpse of the beautiful blue sky. And later on, when I was writing this the gopher came bac into my view, and went into the tall grass, but form what I saw it look about 13 to 15 inches long, and in my opinion weighed about 15 to 20 pounds.
The three things that I want to follow over the time in my sit spots is the tree with the flowers and seem how the flowers change or fall of the trees as the season changes over time. O asp wetter to observe the rate of leaves that are on the trees and see if there is a gnarl increase or a decrease for ethe number of leaves on a tree as the seasons change. I will also pay attention to the wines that are on the two trees south of me and see whether they will hurt or damage the tree. And one extra thing I want to observe is the sound of the insects and animals to see if the number increases or decrease over the season changes
Its seems like you chose a pretty great spot with a lot of greenery! Its also amazing that you saw a monarch butterfly, I have yet to see one in this area. I am curious as to what type of flowers are the ones you plan to follow over time. Your spot also seems to have a lot of trees but the ones that drew my attention the most were the ones with the vines. Do you happen to know the name of these trees? and why they have vines?
I do not know the type of flowers on the tree, but if you want I can do some research on it and get back to you. I also do not know the name of the trees with the vines, or why the vines or growing on them
