Time in: 1:49PM-2:50PM

Since the last time that I had been to my sit-spot, the only notable difference that I saw was that the main open area that I observe was completely MOWED AWAY. I knew that just outside the open area, another section of grass was regularly mowed, but I did not think that the main section would be too! This was honestly so upsetting because two out of my three organisms were mowed away :(.

Though comparing my sit-spot to how it was at the beginning of the experience to now, I have seen major differences. They were the general changes that happen in a natural environment over the course of the year. That being the change from green and lively plants to changes in shades of color and withering. As for animal and insects, the same applies with there being a greater abundance during the warm summer months, then dwindling when fall and winter approach.

Today the only organisms that I was able to observe were these large birds circling about the general area of my spot and near the Alumni House. I wish I had the hawk identification sheet that we had used before, because I think it would have been really helpful in trying to identify them. They had two-toned broad wings and were medium/large sized. They were absolutely captivating. I seriously spent about 10 minutes just admiring them!

As for my three objects, I had initially chosen them because they were the things that immediately caught my eye, so I stuck with them. Over the course of this experience, I watched as each went from a healthy state in the summer, to slowly withering/losing leaves in the falls, and unfortunately mowed down in the winter (except for my tree of course!). It easy to simply read about the changes an organisms goes through over time and under different conditions, but actually being able to witness it in person is very fascinating and enjoyable.

Overall this experience was pretty fun for me. It allowed me to have a better connection with nature. Sometimes I find myself just going to my sit-spot during free pockets on my time to rest, vent out frustrations, or just chill and breathe. I’m sure that when I look back on this experience in a year’s time, I would remember the feeling of forgetting the outside and simply honing in on myself and my surroundings.
