I arrived at my sit spot at around 7:30pm on October 8th. The sun had already set at 5pm, so it had already been dark out for a while. The time of day that I chose to make my observations was at night. I chose to make my observations at night because I had never been to my night before. I was also curious to see if the night life was any different than the activity at my spot during the day. I avoided going to my sit spot at night because of my lack of energy at this time to make observations, and I was also skeptical of what type of activity I’d witness in the nighttime.
My sit spot did not change much since the last time I was there. The trees did seem more bare and the leaves covering the ground were in majority brown. The weather was not bad at all. It was a bit cold, but the day time had a pretty high temperature of 75 degrees fahrenheit, so the cooler night temperatures were bearable. The sky was a dark navy blue color, there were barely any clouds in the sky and from my sit spot I was not able to see if the moon was out. I did not see any animals at all. I did hear an overwhelming amount of crickets and heard something rustling in the bushes that were in front of me. The crickets seemed to grow louder as time went by. I was not able to make out what was rustling in the bushes, it might’ve been a squirrel. This new experience at my sit spot during the nighttime was not too interesting because of the lack of activity. The night time did create a more calmed environment at my sit spot, which was nice. I probably would not go to my sit spot during the night time again because it is not very convenient for me energy wise.
In comparison to my previous session, I didn’t see as many birds or squirrels during my night session. During my previous session, I also had not heard the crickets chirping as loud as they were during the night time session. I assume that crickets are nocturnal and that is why they were so present during the night session. I am now thinking that squirrels are crepuscular based on the fact that I did not see any squirrels during my night time observations. I am also assuming that birds are more active during the day time since there was no trace of them at night. Overall, the drastic lack of activity gives me reason to believe that the nighttime was responsible for the changes I witnessed at my sit spot.
I’m glad that you were able to experience your sitspot at a different time of day than you are used to! I’m sorry you weren’t able to experience as much wildlife activity with the exception of the crickets. Hopefully, next time will be better!
